I GOT LOST - I think it's time I admit that.

I’ve been working on Void Tales for a very long time now, and over the years I’ve rebuilt more areas, systems and bosses than I can count.

Whenever something wasn’t good enough anymore, I replaced it. Then I replaced something else. And somewhere along the way, I got really good at improving individual pieces of Void Tales without ever really fixing what was underneath them.

The foundation.

And honestly, it isn’t very good. That’s a difficult thing for me to say because I love this game. But even more than that, I love that there are still people who want to experience it. Some of you have come back again and again just to see what changed, try another update or explore another place I spent way too much time building. I don’t think you realize what kind of compliment that is.

And that’s exactly why I don’t want to keep patching things together anymore. Because despite all the questionable decisions I’ve made over the years, I think Void Tales has always managed to get one thing right.

It has a soul.

That’s the part I don’t want to change. I just think it deserves a much better game around it.

LESS, BUT DEEPER.

For a long time I thought making Void Tales better meant adding more. More mechanics. More places. More things to learn. Bigger worlds.

I’m starting to believe the opposite.

and I have been cooking something together for a while now, and the direction we’ve taken feels better than anything I’ve done with Void Tales in a long time.

Weapons that genuinely play differently. Smaller places with more happening inside them.

Areas worth returning to.

A Soul Station that is compact enough to actually become a place you know and maybe even miss when you’re away from it.

And most importantly, I want Void Tales to finally feel like one journey.

The current beginning is probably the best example of where I went wrong. We throw you into Falwhind, pull you out again, introduce Phia somewhere else, send you to the Soul Station, give you another enormous world for the gods… and somehow expect you to care about all of this before you’ve even had time to understand where you are.

That is going away.

The new beginning simply flows into the Soul Station. No feeling of constantly being pulled out of one game and dropped into another. From there, Phia stays with you. The Station becomes the place from which you and her slowly start putting this broken world back together, and the rest of Void Tales grows naturally outwards from there. You’ll see a little bit of what I mean in the teaser. It sounds like such a simple change when I write it down, but it has changed the way I’m looking at almost everything.

I’ve also finally stopped protecting ideas just because they’ve been part of Void Tales for years. And weirdly enough, allowing myself to question basically everything and chase something as stupidly impossible as perfection feels really, really good.

REBOOT

The Void Tales you know isn’t going anywhere.

You can explore it, fight its bosses, finish things you haven’t finished yet and enjoy the world that’s there today.

All that while and I build the Void Tales those years taught us how to make.

It’s not another area rework. It’s not another combat update. And it’s definitely not me putting another shiny new thing on top of an old problem.

It’s taking the thing I never want Void Tales to lose:

  • Atmosphere
  • Weirdness
  • Soul

And this time with a foundation!

But for the first time in a very long time, I feel like I know exactly what I’m trying to build. And I’m having a ridiculous amount of fun building it. Thank you for still wanting to experience this strange little world of mine.

Seriously.

I can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been cooking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5UMNpbhLC4
